Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 1 Whole chicken
  • 1 Tbsp Paprika
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Poultry seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper
  • 1/2 cup Water

Gravy Ingredients(optional):

  • 2 Tbsp Butter
  • 2 Tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Liquid from the Dutch oven

Instructions

Instructions for Roasted Whole Chicken:

  • Prepare your whole chicken: The first step is to pat the chicken dry with paper towels. Once dry, liberally season it with the spice mixture. Place the chicken in the Dutch oven with 1/2 cup of water in the bottom of the pan.
  • Roast: Cover the Dutch oven, place in the 425-degree oven, and roast for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, reduce the oven temperature to 350.
  • Baste: Baste the chicken with the liquid in the pot every 25 minutes. You will do this twice.
  • Uncover: After 50 minutes, uncover the Dutch oven for the last 25 minutes of baking. When the chicken's internal temperature reaches 165, remove it from the oven.
  • Serve: Slice the chicken and serve warm!

Instructions for optional gravy:

  • Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a saute pan. Once melted, whisk in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour. Slowly whisk in 1 cup of the liquid from the Dutch oven. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
